Super troupers to wow Lanark Memorial Hall

Rutherglen Reformer - - The Ticket - Gillian Thomson

ABBA tribute show Thank You for the Music will be heading to Lanark Memorial Hall on Friday, November 27.

Currently on tour, the show is celebrating its 22nd anniversary, and is the longest-running tribute concert to the Swedish supergroup.

One of the producers, Gary Mac, says that the show was one of the first of its kind.

He said: “Thank You for the Music was the mastermind of Michael Taylor. He was a theatre show producer and there was a lot of demand for ABBA.

“It’s a very easy show to please people with, the reaction from fans is incredible. It’s a very busy production.”

There will be a few shows for ABBA lovers here in Scotland, but Gary says that perhaps the most unexpected fan base is actually in Brazil, with fans recognising cast members on the street.

He said: “The guys are big in Brazil, they appear on national TV there.”

With a range hits to choose from, it seems like the show will definitely be a crowd-pleaser.

The all-star ABBA revue includes the hits Dancing Queen, Super Trouper, Mamma Mia, Thank You for the Music, Take A Chance on Me, The Winner Takes It All, Chiquitita, I Have A Dream, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, Waterloo and many more.

“It’s the very best of ABBA,” Gary added.

“But we do a few songs that are probably quite obscure.”

Thank You for the Music also features hits from another famous band from the 70s, The Bee Gees.

Gary believes that music from this decade is still proving popular, and his kids share his love for ABBA.

“I think the film (Mamma Mia) has revived interest,” he said.

“The audience ranges from five year-olds to 100-year-olds. This music transcends all sorts of eras.

“Entertaining the nation for longer than ABBA in their prime, the smashhit show’s all-star cast has delighted the world for longer than ABBA did in their heyday.

“We would urge visitors to come and experience the UK’s No1 concert show, Thank You for the Music!”

The performance at Lanark Memorial Hall, St Leonard Street, Lanark, starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £18.50.

Tickets are available form the box office on 01555 667999.
