HEROIC OAP FIGHTS OFF THUGS WHO GASSED WIFE
Archie (80) stands up to home invaders
A Cambuslang granddad tried to fight off two thugs who broke into his home and attacked his wife with CS Gas.
Archie and Janet Daly were at their Cairnswell Drive home on Sunday (September 27) when two masked men forced entry and demanded money from the occupants.
But instead of complying, 80-year-old Archie attacked them himself as he tried to remove the intruders mask.
The couple’s daughter, Kate, told the Reformer that after pushing Archie to the ground, the thugs tried to spray Janet with the gas, but she was able to make her escape and alerted the neighbours while the suspects fled empty-handed through a lane leading to Rosebank Drive
Janet (81) was later treated by a paramedic but thankfully the spray had missed her eye.
The family have now offered a £1000 reward for information leading to arrest of those responsible.
Kate ( 54), said: “The doctor has been out to
examine them, and physically they are fine but they aren’t sleeping at the moment. It was a terrifying ordeal.
“Mum is very shaken, but thankfully the CS Gas missed her eye and the paramedic was able to just clean it up.
“They have taken out a panel of glass from the back door to get in and then come up stairs.
“They pushed dad and turned over the bed and then dad has fallen and banged his head. But he put up quite a fight.”
Kate says the family have been touched by the support of neighbours: “They have stayed here for 30-odd years and get on with everyone.
“Everyone has been great, coming to the door and asking if they need messages and things like that.”
The suspects are described as local men, aged 20 – 40 and of medium height and build. At the time of the incident they wear wearing dark clothing with their faces covered.
Detective Constable Iain McCulloch of Cambuslang CID, said: “This was a terrifying incident for this elderly couple to endure.
“Early indications suggest that this was a targeted attack.
“We are analysing available CCTV and footage from the police helicopter and are currently progressing door- to- door enquiries to establish if anyone in the area has any further information which could assist in the investigation.
“As a community, we will not tolerate this type of criminality.
“I am appealing to anyone who may have knowledge of this incident to make contact with police at Cambuslang on 101.”
