Couple save cash
Keeping warm and cosy at home is a priority for pensioners Margaret and John Dickson.
So when the chance cropped up to save money on the costs of throwing a warm jacket of external insulation around their end-terraced home, it made sense to check it out.
The couple’s home was built with solid external walls which meant they couldn’t consider cavity wall insulation. Mrs Dickson applied for the Scottish government’s Home Energy loan scheme which offers owner-occupiers and private landlords the chance of an interest-free loan to help with a variety of energy saving work at their home. And she was delighted to discover a cashback scheme was running at the same time and would cut her bill in half, from £9000 to £4500. She is now paying back the loan at £72 a month over the next five years.
