Walk on the wild side

Rutherglen Reformer - - News From The Pews -

St Bride’s Church members recently completed their latest walk.

The group tackled a six mile circuit and enjoyed a good time.

The group’s Gerry Daly said:“We completed our 44th walk on September 19.

“It was a six mile circuit in the Campsies taking in Cort-ma Law and Lecket Hill.

“A steep climb on a grassy path to the top of the wide ridge was followed by a walk along the ridge.

“On the ridge the paths were a bit rougher and sometimes boggy although, for about one kilometre, we had to negotiate boggy featureless moorland without a path.

“Only eleven turned up for this outing which is our lowest in a long time, so we decided we were the first eleven.

“The weather was kind - we started off in a bit of fog and cloud but we soon climbed above this to witness a sea of white cloud below and blue skies above.

“Most walkers yearn for this experience.

“Whilst the low cloud to the south blocked out Glasgow we were treated to some amazing views of the Highlands to the north and when the cloud finally dispersed we could see Tinto Hill and the Southern Uplands to the south.

“All-in-all it was a brilliant day enjoyed by all from a six-year-old to a 76 year old. and you don’t get better than that.”
