Bowlers under siege by vandals
Teen yobs are making life a misery for members of Halfway Bowling Club.
The club have suffered a spate of vandalism over the past few weeks.
A window was smashed recently while members were inside the club.
“Thankfully no one was hurt,” said a club spokesman who did not want named.
“We’ve checked CCTV but the cameras didn’t cover the area involved.
“We’re now going to spend money we can hardly afford to get more cameras installed.
“We know that it is boys and girls aged around 15 that are doing it but we just can’t prove it,” said the spokesman.
Three weeks ago the club suffered a break- in to the greenkeeper’s container.
The thieves stole a hedge trimmer and then trailed oil on the playing surface.
“We think they then tried to set the oil on fire,” added the spokesman.
The club have reported the incidents to police.
Constable Greig Roberton said: “We are aware of the issues and our investigations into these matters is continuing.
“We will also be increasing patrols in the area around the bowling club,” he added.
