Rutherglen Reformer - - News - Stratton Williams

Police are still hunting the heartless thugs who attacked an elderly Cambuslang couple.

Archie and Janet Daly were in their Cairnswell Drive home when two masked men burst in demanding money.

Janet (81) was sprayed with CS gas but brave Archie (80) attacked the would-be robbers and tried to remove one intruder’s mask.

The suspects fled emptyhanded through a lane leading to Rosebank Drive following the attack.

Disgusted members of the public took to social media to vent their anger at the thugs who carried out the unprovoked attack.

Murray A Nix said:“A despicable violation of an old couple in the sanctuary of their own home.

“Let us just hope that the sub-species responsible for this cowardly action are caught, convicted and the maximum sentence possible under the law is handed down.”

Jim Mulholland added: “Disgraceful. Hopefully some street justice will be administered swiftly to that scum.”

Gillian Greenhorn said:“What’s the world coming to? Not safe in their own house, hope they are ok.”

Following the attack on Sunday, September 27, the elderly couple’s family put up a £1000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.

A police spokesman said:“Our inquiries are continuing.”
