Sore defeat for Spiders
Queen’s Park .. 0 Montrose ........ 1 Queen’s Park missed the chance to go top of the Ladbrokes Scottish League Two table after a narrow defeat to Montrose at Hampden.
The Spiders were desperately unlucky after 20 minutes when Ryan McGeever got his head to Jamie McKernon’s corner.
Unfor t u nat e l y , w i t h the keeper well beaten, Scott Johnston popped up acrobatically on the line to hook the ball clear. Five minutes later and Gus MacPherson’s side came close once more.
Ciaran McElroy switched the ball to Chris Duggan who shot hard and low, but home goalkeeper Jordan Millar did well to deny him with his legs.
In the 34th minute, Duggan was in on goal again but saw his shot come off the inside of the post.
Despite Queen’s Park’s first- half domination, it was Montrose who opened the scoring in the second half.
A series of heavy touches in the home defence gifted possession to Ross Campbell.
Graham Webster then took over and shot from distance, beating Willie Muir low to his right.
In the dying seconds, Duggan had another effort tipped over before yet another goal-bound effort was brilliantly kept out by a flying save from Millar.
The defeat leaves the Spiders sitting in third place, two points behind leaders Annan Athletic.
