Triple blow for unlucky Glens
Rutherglen Glencairn’s squad were left with battle scars after their cup defeat to Clydebank in the New Coin Holdings West of Scotland Cup.
Three players from the side that started on Saturday had to be rushed to hospital before the final whistle during their 4-2 first round loss.
Two minutes before the interval, the Glens’Jonny Boal was caught late in the penalty area and had to be carried off before Denis McLaughlin drilled the spot kick into the net to make it 2-1.
To rub salt in the wounds, four minutes after half-time, Glencairn ended up losing two more players to injury.
After a block from a shot, the ball spun up into the air towards goal, and defenders Adam Shaw (right) and David Dunnachie (left) suffered a sickening clash of heads when they both jumped with commitment to head the ball away.
A picture of the pair looking rather sore was later tweeted from the Glencairn account.
All three players have since been released from hospital.
