Road chaos warning for M74

Rutherglen Reformer - - News - Staff reporter

Motorists travelling south f rom Rutherglen and Cambuslang on the M74 can expect five weeks of travel misery when a main route at the Raith Interchange is closed as part of the ongoing roadworks.

Works on the main southbound route between Hamilton and Bothwell will begin on Monday, October 26.

The closure will start at the Raith Interchange on the M74 and continue between the B7071 Bellshill Road from Whistleberry Toll to Bothwell Bridge roundabout.

Drivers coming from Glasgow will have to exit the route early or continue down the junction and exit at Motherwell as a result of the closure.

It comes as part of the major road improvements project to improve congestion on Scotland’s busiest motorways, the M8, the M73 and the M74.

Traffic management means there will be no access to Bothwell or Hamilton from Raith, Junction 5 of the M74 and the A725.

The restriction will be followed by a full closure of both carriageways of the B7071 for one weekend from Friday night to Monday morning, currently planned for November 27 to 30.

Signed diversions will be in place on all approaches.
