Paying tribute to Brian once again

Time to get snappy

Rutherglen Reformer - - News - Douglas Dickie

The Reformer is once again running the Brian Logue memorial photography competition for school pupils in the area

Brian passed away on Boxing Day, 2013 at the age of 64.

He had been our photographer during two spells at the Reformer, in the 1970s, and from 2007 right up until his death.

With the blessing of Brian’s family, we’re once again looking for the best images captured by schoolchildren in the Reformer circulation area — and the winner will scoop £75 courtesy of Media Scotland and the magnificent Brian Logue memorial trophy, which was donated by an anonymous friend.

Second prize will scoop £50 and there will even be £25 for third place.

The rules are simple: any schoolchild, primary or secondary, can enter as long as they live in the Reformer circulation area ( Rutherglen, Cambuslang, Halfway, Burnside, Castlemilk, King’s Park, Croftfoot or Toryglen), or they attend school here.

The picture can be of whatever you want, with the winners selected by Brian’s family.

Closing date for entry will be Wednesday, December 2.

Brian’s son, Chris, told the Reformer: “My dad would be delighted that this competition is running again and the whole family are very grateful to have something so close to his heart in his memory — photography.

“If the pictures from last year are anything to go by then this year makes for a high standard indeed. Good luck to everyone taking part!”

Last year, the winner was Robin Ashcroft from Castlemilk. She was 10 when she took a snap on her phone of her and her pals making a star shape with their fingers.

Brian’s widow, Annette, described it as “so simple, but so effective.”

Reformer editor Douglas Dickie said: “We’re delighted to be running this in memory of Brian once more.

“He was a unique individual who touched the life of so many. He especially loved working with the local schools so it seems natural to ask the children and young people of the area to show us their best work.”

Entering couldn’t be simpler. Either email the picture to news@ rutherglenreformer.co.uk or send in a hard copy to Brian Logue Competition, Rutherglen Reformer, Central Quay, Glasgow, G3 8DA. Remember and include your name, age, what school you go to and the story behind the picture.

Please note, editors decision is final. The winner or winner’s parent/ carer must agree to a degree of publicity. Usual Trinity Mirror rules apply.
