Thousands of people from Rutherglen, Cambuslang and the surrounding area found out on Monday if they were successful in the ballot for Glasgow’s Christmas lights switch on event.

Over 54,000 applications were received requesting over 266,0000 tickets.

Just 4.4 per cent of applications will have been successful, with 93 per cent going to Glasgow postcodes, including those covering Toryglen, Castlemilk, Croftfoot and King’s Park.

Lord Provost of Glasgow, Councillor Sadie Docherty said: “We know how popular the Glasgow Christmas Lights Switch On is but due to the capacity of George Square we can’t come close to getting everyone who wants to attend in to the event.

“This year we have had enough applications to fill George Square more than 20 times over so I hope that all those who were lucky enough to receive tickets in the ballot will come along on the night. It promises to be a fantastic way to start the countdown to the festive celebrations and the start of Glasgow Loves Christmas.”

Entry to the event on Sunday, November 15 is by ticket only.
