NHS Lanarkshire, the health board that covers Rutherglen and Cambuslang, scored a win at the Self Management Awards.

NHS Lanarkshire and Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) scooped Self Management Partnership of the Year at the event, hosted by the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland at the Scottish Parliament.

Campbell Chalmers, NHS Lanarkshire stroke nurse consultant, said the team was delighted with the win.

He explained: “Stroke is a life-changing condition and we know that people affected by it can fear another stroke which leaves them feeling anxious and depressed.

“We have a long-standing partnership with Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland and together we recognised there was a need to make a difference and to do more to enhance people’s recovery from stroke by using selfmanagement approaches.

“The approaches we used have been specifically designed to ena b l e individuals to build their confidence and give them a sense of control back.

“Ou r nomination was in partnership with Margaret Somerville from CHSS for the range of selfmanagement initiatives we have undertaken together. These include individual support, group-based activity, written resources and online resources.”
