Kind- hearted workers at a Rutherglen store are to hold a charity afternoon for a good cause.

Kirkwood Fashion in Rutherglen Shopping Xchange will hold a VIP Day this Sunday, November 1.

They’ll be raffling a Hermes Birkin handbag off, while cheese and wine will be available in the store too.

All the money raised will be going towards the STV Children’s Appeal, which aims to raise funds and to help make a real difference to those who need it most.

The appeal aims to do this by providing practical help like food and warm clothes; creating opportunities for training and employability; and enabling social and emotional support.

The store’s manager Jennifer Panchal said: “It should be a good day for a great cause - we’ll be raffling the Hermes Birkin bag which is a terrific prize and we will have cheese and wine on the day too.

“We actually did a charity event in Motherwell recently that was a fashion event, and we gave the money to the St Andrew’s Hospice.

“This time we wanted to do something more local to the area, so we thought of the VIP Day.

“I’ve gone through hardship in my own life, and I’ve been lucky to find myself with this company.

“They’ve been very good at helping charities, and I want to do something that helps give back to people and children that are struggling - that’s why we thought of going to the STV Children’s Appeal.”

In just four years the Appeal has managed to raise more than £8.2 million, allowing them to make 297 big and small grants to projects across all 32 local authority areas in Scotland.

Those projects then help to provide much needed support to over 37,000 children.
