Ruther­glen Post Of­fice was set to close af­ter Royal Mail an­nounced that it would be­come a fran­chise in a de­ci­sion that left cus­tomers and staff fu­ri­ous- es­pe­cially af­ter staff learned about the plans by ac­ci­dent.

Con­cerns were raised by lo­cal doc­tors about the amount of peo­ple in Cam­bus­lang and Ruther­glen who were mak­ing ap­point­ments and then never show­ing up.

Plans for a new Calder­wood Pri­mary were ap­proved as part of coun­cil plans to mod­ernise ev­ery school in the area.

An­gry op­po­nents of the newly merged Cathkin and Ruther­glen High schools hit out at the coun­cil, and ac­cused them of go­ing back on their word.

Strike ac­tion was averted at the Grampian food out­let.
