Eight bidders have been invited to bid for the contract to treat South Lanarkshire Council’s residual waste.

A 10 year contract, with the possibility of a five year extension, is on offer to help the authority comply with strict landfill diversion targets and comply with the forthcoming ban on the landfilling of biodegradable waste.

The companies who met the minimum standards now have until next Wednesday (December 9), to tender their bids.

An evaluation of the bids will take place throughout December and January.

It is anticipated the contract will be awarded in April or may ahead of the commencement date of April 1, 2017.

The successful bidder will be responsible for ensuring that 95 per cent of the residual waste it receives from the council is diverted from landfill.
