Neighbours to fight doorstep crime
Police Scotland are starting an initiative that they hope will help keep vulnerable and elderly people in Rutherglen and Cambuslang safe from bogus callers.
Under the Nominated Neighbour Scheme people can nominate one of their neighbours to help keep opportunist con-men away from their door.
Any suspicious caller would be directed to the nominated neighbour’s door. The neighbour would check the caller’s identity before accompanying them back to the house once they are convinced they are genuine. Then they will stay at the house until the caller leaves.
A police spokesperson said: “As a nominated neighbour you agree to help verify the identity of any person calling at your elderly/vulnerable neighbour’s door.”
