Kirkhill members bowled over
Three members of Kirkhill Bowling Club got a behind the scenes look at the televised International Indoor Bowls last month.
Vice president John O’Brien, Tom O’Brien and Frank Burns took advantage of a sponsored ticket and transport offer from Co-Operative Funeral Care, who are the bowls club’s Commonwealth Trophy sponsors.
The trio were chauffeured from Kirkhill Bowling Club to the venue in Perth in a limo, to watch two games from grandstand seats.
On arrival they had lunch in the same facility used by the players and got free passes to the BBC players’ gallery overlooking the portable indoor rink.
John said: “It was fascinating to see what was happening behind the scenes and to realise the players use the TV monitors to check bowl positions at the other end of the rink when deciding what shot to play. The audience were initially very quiet, but as ties progressed and allegiances formed, the crowd got behind their favourites more vocally.”
