Christmas is all boxed up at Stonelaw Church

Rutherglen Reformer - - News From The Pews - Jonathan Geddes

A group of youngsters were boxing clever at Stonelaw Parish Church recently.

They were taking part in the Church’s Christmas holiday club, which took place on a Saturday afternoon.

It was the first time that Stonelaw have expanded their popular holiday club into the festive season, and it proved a hit with kids.

Part of the afternoon fun was designing boxes that explained the Nativity story.

The church’s Therese Reid said: “It was a really fantastic afternoon.

“This was the first time we’ve had the holiday club at this time, and we weren’t sure how it would go because there’s so many other things going on, like pantomimes and Christmas shopping.

“We got them to tell the story of the nativity through designing scenes in boxes, with the angel appearing to Mary as the first one, through to the Three Wise Men arriving in the last one.

“The children were very imaginative with how they designed them, and it was really good fun.

“Two children, Calum Devlin and Katy Baird, then narrated the story.

At 5.30 the parents and some church members arrived, and they then told the story to them, before we had a buffet and sang Christmas carols.

“It was a really warm, fun way to get into the Christmas spirit.”

The church also have plans for a couple of special services over the Christmas period.

Therese added: “We will be having a pyjama service at 7pm on Christmas Eve.

“That will be a family service, and the idea is the children will be in their pyjamas and heading straight to bed after the service - I’m not sure that theory will work in practice, given how excited the kids get.

“Then after New Year we’re going to have a fun fish supper service on January 3 at 5.30pm.

“It will just be a short service, and we’ll get fish suppers to eat while catching up on Christmas and celebrating the New Year.”

Anyone interested in the fish supper service should contact Therese on 07508 213099.
