In­au­gu­ral Comic Con will be Kick Ass fun

East Kil­bride is set to host its first Comic Con next year which is ex­pected to at­tract comic book fans from across La­nark­shire.

The Big Glas­gow Comic Page and The Big Glas­gow Comic and Craft Fair (BGCCF) are team­ing up with South La­nark­shire Leisure and Cul­ture for a ‘Mini‘ Comic Con at the town’s Green­hills Li­brary in Fe­bru­ary 2016. On the day you will be able to at­tend a zom­bie school, learn how to ap­ply hor­ror make up, and a cos­play com­pe­ti­tion to give visi­tors the chance to show off the colour­ful cos­tumes th­ese events are known for.

There will be a raf­fle with prizes in­clud­ing signed copies of books by Kick Ass cre­ator Mark Mil­lar, John Fer­gu­son – who is the cre­ator of Scot­land’s first su­per­hero Saltire – and draw­ings by Scot­tish comic book artist Gary Ersk­ine.

There will be over 30 ven­dors sell­ing comics, graphic nov­els, art and crafts, yoys and cards as some of the big­gest col­lec­tors in Scot­land travel to EK.

Comic Con started in Amer­ica and the pop­u­lar comic book and arts con­ven­tion have spread through­out the globe with their mix of spe­cial guests and themed char­ac­ters.

Or­gan­iser Ian Bonar is look­ing for­ward to tak­ing their events to East Kil­bride for the first time.

He said: “The BGCCF run eight events per year in Glas­gow City Cen­tre and this the first we have ven­tured out to East Kil­bride so we’re ex­cited to bring the event there.

“We’ll be run­ning some work­shops and pan­els through the day and all ages are wel­come.”

Gerry Camp­bell, gen­eral man­ager with South La­nark­shire Leisure and Cul­ture, hopes to en­cour­age peo­ple to en­gage with their lo­cal li­brary.

Mr Camp­bell said: “The Comic Con event at Green­hills Li­brary is a great op­por­tu­nity to en­cour­age young peo­ple to dis­cover what’s go­ing on at the li­brary through their in­ter­est in comics and graphic nov­els.

“The event is hap­pen­ing on Na­tional Li­braries Day and we hope to sign up new li­brary mem­bers and pro­mote free e-book and mag­a­zine ser­vices.”

The event kicks off at 10am and runs un­til 4pm on Fe­bru­ary 6 and en­try is free for ev­ery­one.
