Nearly £23 mil­lion has been spent on per­son­alised num­ber plates sold by the DVLA in Bri­tain in the past 12 months.

The fig­ure is a record amount and shows there’s still a huge de­mand by peo­ple who want to make a mark with their reg­is­tra­tion num­ber.

In the fi­nal DVLA auc­tion of the year more than £5 mil­lion was spent with the Porscheo­ri­ented 911 RSR num­ber plate be­ing sold for £46,700.

Other reg­is­tra­tions at the sale in in­cluded WH15 KEY which went for £43,500 and 1000 O, sold for £38,690.

And an un­named businessman snapped up BR15 TOL for £20,168 at the sale which was the first auc­tion by the DVLA to break the £5 mil­lion mark.
