Pupils pay valuable visit to Glasgow Uni
The Advanced Higher English class at Cathkin High School paid a trip to Glasgow University last month.
The aim of the day long visit was to get help from staff and students with their English dissertations.
S3 pupil Ewan Allan arranged the visit as both his parents work at the uni.
The pupils – Holly Adams, Morgan Carmichael, Hannah Coyle, Erin Milne Dunn, Jessica and Rebecca Greig, Callum Harper, Lucy Henderson, Nevada Hillon, Aimee Legowski, Anna McClure, Jacqueline O’Hara, Carys Sharpe, Adam Sutherland, Lisa Toome and Cherie Young - had two hours with the students and a senior lecturer from the English faculty, Helen Stoddart.
Pupils were paired up with students, who will visit Cathkin in a few weeks, and they worked on how best to write their dissertation.
The second section of the day was spent in the university library.
English teacher Ms Nichol said:“It was a fabulous opportunity for the class to work with students who are enthusiastic about language and literature.
“I can’t thank the English Faculty and, in particular, Karen Allen, enough for allowing us this fantastic experience.”
