Superheroes pack a punch
Calderwood Primary pupils dress up like their heroes
Up in the sky, it’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s the youngsters of Calderwood Primary!
The kids were having a superhero day recently, as part of their month-long micro-tyco project.
The project was run through the WildHearts group and is aimed at encouraging entrepreneurs.
It sees teams given a month to turn £1 into as much money as possible.
The cash raised then goes towards helping poor entrepreneurs in the developing world.
Among the ideas the kids came up with were an afternoon tea, a Lego challenge , a quiz night and a car wash.
However, arguably the most popular event was the superhero day, where youngsters dressed as Batman, Spider-Man and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Teacher Maureen Waddell said: “We got 287 pounds for it, so we’re just over £2,000 in total, which is a great amount.
“The quiz night was very popular, but the superhero one was amazing - everyone was having fun in getting dressed up.
“There was quite a few homemade costumes which was great to see too, and all the teachers dressed up too - I was Super-Teacher!
“The money goes to WildHearts and it can make a big difference to underprivileged people.”
