Man is charged with taxi robbery
A 20-year-old man has been remanded in custody after he was charged with two counts of robbery in Rutherglen.
William McGill is charged with the robbery of a 35-yearold taxi driver at 8.20pm on February 27 and a 24-yearold man a short time later.
McGill made no plea or declaration when he appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday, March 4.
He was committed for further examination and is expected to return to court for a further hearing in the coming week.
The Glaswegian was charged with robbery one week after Police Scotland issued an appeal for information regarding the thefts, which saw a taxi driver forced to pull over on the hard shoulder of the M74 near junction two and his cash and radio stolen.
A short time later at 8.40pm a young man was trying to enter a common close on Baronald Street when two men approached him from behind and demanded money.
The Reformer understands a second man is being sought in relation to the incidents.
