Castlemilk man Danny Burke became the first Durie’s ABC boxer in the club’s history to secure a place in the Men’s Elite Championship final.

The 23-year-old 75kg fighter boxed in the semi final against Edinburgh Meadowbank ABC’s Owen Spence at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell on Saturday.

Burke performed well against the well schooled opponent in an even but hard contest.

But the Durie’s man was on top form again and worked behind his left hand lead jab followed by thundering overhand rights to win the bout by a split decision.

He will now go into the final on April 2 at Ravenscraig against last year’s youth Commonwealth gold medal winner John Docherty.

Coach Archie Durie congratulated Danny on his victory and added:“This is the first time ever Durie’s ABC have had a senior in the Men’s Elite Championship final and Danny Burke is the man to bring the title to Rutherglen.”

Durie’s have four boxers in action at this weekend’s Scottish Schoolboy and Junior Open Championships.

Final awaits Danny Burke
