The major woodland park facility at Cuningar Loop in Rutherglen will officially open next Friday, March 25.

Although the park has been open at weekends for a number of months, this will mark the daily opening of the park.

To mark the event, Forest Enterprise Scotland are holding a tree dressing event, celebrating the roles trees play in our lives.

There will also be willow weaving, storytelling, felt craft and green wood working over the Easter weekend.

Visitors will also be able to walk the woodland trail to meet some of the lesser known inhabitants of Cuningar Loop.

Forest Enterprise Scotland’s community and recreation manager for Cuningar Loop, Susan Nash, said: “We are delighted to announce our daily opening at Cuningar Loop and to mark the occasion with our tree dressing event.

“We’ve got some exciting and unusual activities planned throughout the day for children and adults.

“It’s the perfect way to begin celebrating the Easter holidays and find out more about our woodlands and the significant role which they play in our lives.”

The £ 5.7million park features an Activity Zone which includes a bike skills park, bouldering park, adventure play and woodland workout area.

Susan added: “Now that we are open daily we’ll be working on creating a calendar of events for Cuningar Loop for the whole community to enjoy themselves.

“We want to make sure it’s available and welcoming for all the community, and encourage as many people as possible to visit.”

Visitors should be aware that the bridge linking the park with the Glasgow side of the river is not yet in place and some construction traffic may still go through the park.

Cuningar Loop can be accessed from Downiebrae Road by Dalmarnock Bridge and Rutherglen, Dalmarnock and Farme Cross.

The project is one of the ‘sustainable’ Legacy 2014 programmes that provide lasting and positive legacy from the Commonwealth Games which were held in Glasgow 2014.
