Trial de­layed

A Ruther­glen man charged with de­mand­ing money from an­other male and hav­ing a screw­driver on his pos­ses­sion will stand trial on July 1, 2016.

Ed­ward White­side, 41, of Ryan Way, is ac­cused of adopt­ing an ag­gres­sive stance to­wards a man, de­mand­ing money from him and ut­ter­ing threats at a flat on Au­gust 20, 2015.

On the same day, White­side was charged with hav­ing a screw­driver with him in a pub­lic place with­out rea­son­able or law­ful ex­cuse at Burn­side Road.

Both charges are be­lieved to have been com­mit­ted while White­side was on bail.

The ac­cused, who de­nies all the charges against him, was due to stand trial last month but pro­ceed­ings were halted as an essen­tial wit­ness was ab­sent. He will re­turn to court for an in­ter­me­di­ate diet on June 1 be­fore the trial starts the fol­low­ing month.
