Police Scotland are urging Rutherglen motorists to drive safely in heavy rainfall as more than 40 crashes were recorded on the M74 in a single day.

On Easter Sunday, March 24, adverse weather conditions swept across Scotland as part of Storm Katie and saw extremely hazardous driving conditions in some areas.

On the M74 in South Lanarkshire, police patrols attended over 40 separate crashes caused by driving rain, sleet and snow.

No one was seriously injured in any of the incidents, but police have warned locals to pay close attention to the weather forecasts in the coming weeks.

The force said officers from the trunk roads police group would continue to perform high visibility patrols throughout the area.
