Jail for man who of­fered police a bribe

A Ruther­glen man who pleaded guilty to of­fer­ing police of­fi­cers money in ex­change for his re­lease from cus­tody has been jailed.

Peter Cas­sidy, of Green­hill Court, pleaded guilty to be­hav­ing in a threat­en­ing and abu­sive man­ner on Fe­bru­ary 23, 2016, when he shouted, swore, ut­tered threats of vi­o­lence and re­marks of a ho­mo­pho­bic na­ture to of­fi­cers.

The 33 year old also ad­mit­ted hin­der­ing and as­sault­ing three police of­fi­cers when they at­tended an in­ci­dent at an­other prop­erty in Green­hill Court. He strug­gled vi­o­lently with them, kicked them on the body and at­tempted to kick one PC on the head.

He pleaded guilty to the four charges when he ap­peared at Glas­gow Sher­iff Court on March 15.

He was sen­tenced to eight months im­pris­on­ment back­dated to Fe­bru­ary 24, 2016.
