Trib­utes paid to football stal­wart

of Scot­land Cup, where they avenged the Scot­tish Cup de­feat by beat­ing Irvine Meadow in the fi­nal.

The fol­low­ing sea­son the club won the Scot­tish Cup for the fifth time, as well as the League Cham­pi­onship ‘A’ Divi­sion, the Evening Times tro­phy and the Player’s No6 Gold Cup.

Cam­bus­lang were so suc­cess­ful, they be­came known as “the ju­nior side of the cen­tury.”

Fur­ther suc­cess in later years in­cluded win­ning the League Cham­pi­onship ‘C’ Divi­sion in sea­son 1985/86, re­peat­ing this feat in 1989/90 and win­ning the League Cham­pi­onship ‘ B’ Divi­sion, and the Evening Times Tro­phy in 1990/91.

Tom John­ston, SJFA sec­re­tary, said: “Gibby was a stal­wart of the ju­nior game, he was ‘Mr Football’.

“He was as­so­ci­ated with Cam­bus­lang Rangers for a long time through the club’s hey­day and was a re­spected and trusted of­fi­cial for the as­so­ci­a­tion.”
