Tributes paid to football stalwart
of Scotland Cup, where they avenged the Scottish Cup defeat by beating Irvine Meadow in the final.
The following season the club won the Scottish Cup for the fifth time, as well as the League Championship ‘A’ Division, the Evening Times trophy and the Player’s No6 Gold Cup.
Cambuslang were so successful, they became known as “the junior side of the century.”
Further success in later years included winning the League Championship ‘C’ Division in season 1985/86, repeating this feat in 1989/90 and winning the League Championship ‘ B’ Division, and the Evening Times Trophy in 1990/91.
Tom Johnston, SJFA secretary, said: “Gibby was a stalwart of the junior game, he was ‘Mr Football’.
“He was associated with Cambuslang Rangers for a long time through the club’s heyday and was a respected and trusted official for the association.”
