Dare to be a little different this spring

Rutherglen Reformer - - News -

Spring has finally sprung, the clocks have gone forward (we’ve lost an hour) but we have officially gained some extra daylight shopping hours.

This month I decided to look for some alternative looks for the spring time, away from the typical girlie looks.

As I hunted through some of the local high street shops in Glasgow what I found was really interesting, lots of different designs from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s mixed up together to make more current styles.

From denim jackets to leather trousers, our favourite shops including New Look, River Island and Primark have really raised their game with the more risqué and alternative styles.

My first pick is a classic, the tartan shirt. Tartan is well known to be a traditional Scottish garment but in the recent years it has become one of the fashion world’s biggest and best patterns to use on clothing. You can find these shirts in all different colours and styles in most fashion retailers.

Primark is a personal favourite of mine for the tartan shirt and very affordable. I matched this shirt with a 1980s inspired fitted leather mini skirt and black tights. You can also find leather look leggings and trousers which are making a big come back this season.

This look is fabulous dressed up or dressed down. Pop on some heels and chunky costume jewellery for a night out seeing your favourite band or just heading down to the pub with the girls, or grab a pair of converse baseball boots for a comfortable chilled out day look.

If you’re more of a girlie girl but still looking for a little edge to your style why not try a chiffon pleated midi skirt? Inspired from the 1970s, on model, Juliette, I chose a Gothic black mesh design from New Look.

A lot of the new styles of dresses and skirts this year are made from a chiffon material or have a mesh overlay which is a great light material for when the good weather kicks in this summer. They also give more confidence to people who don’t enjoy showing off their legs as much without the need for wearing tights.

This outfit has been paired with an off-the-shoulder cord effect top (also from New Look), an edgy pair of chunky buckled ankle boots, which you will find in most shoe retailers. These boots have been popular for a couple of years now and are great for people who don’t enjoy walking

Classic The tartan shirt, modelled by Kimberely Russell, is now one of the fashion world’s biggest and best patterns

Skirting the issue Juliette Tonner models the chiffon pleated midi skirt, which brings an edge to a more traditional, feminine look

Spring has sprung Models Kimberely Russell and Juliette Tonner are ready for spring
