Light Opera’s latest will make you want to Shout!

Rutherglen Reformer - - The Tickets - Ian Bunting

Multi-skilled Monklands Light Opera members will transport audiences back to the swinging sixties for their next all-singing, all-dancing production.

Mod musical ‘Shout!’ sees the talented troupe pay tribute to the decade of love beads and lava lamps by donning their finest go-go boots, miniskirts and tie dye t-shirts for three spectacular performances.

A spokesperson for the group set the scene for what people can expect from the show, telling the Ticket: “‘Shout!’ is set in London and follows the lives of five women – The Red Girl, The Green Girl, The Blue Girl, The Yellow Girl and The Orange Girl – who all face tough situations.

“All five women send letters to Gwendolyn Holmes, who works for the magazine ‘Shout!’ in an advice column, and she gives them support on how to best deal with things.

“The Yellow Girl, the only American character in the show, travels all the way to Britain in order to see Paul McCartney.

“The Orange Girl is a fully grown woman who is married and is starting to suspect her husband is cheating on her.

“The Blue Girl is gorgeous and wealthy, and while she can go on and on about how perfect her life is, she does face some questions regarding her sexuality.

“The Green Girl is a bit promiscuous in the show, always hooking up with many men and throwing innuendos around.

“Finally, the Red Girl is the youngest and most hopeful character; she is a bit hopeless in the beginning, stating she isn’t goodlooking like other girls, until the man of her dreams comes along.”

‘Shout!’ follows in the footsteps of previous Monklands Light Opera productions including ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, ‘The Wedding Singer’, ‘Boogie Nights’ and ‘A Night at the Movies’ that have proved a real hit with audiences across Airdrie and Coatbridge.

The group spokesperson added: “We are always determined to put on the best show possible and all of our members have a wonderful time entertaining the crowds.

“People of all ages are invited to come along and see ‘Shout!’ and enjoy a great night out.”

‘Shout!’ comes to Airdrie’s Flowerhill Parish Church on April 2830 at 7.30pm and tickets (£12/£9) are on sale now at 07801 577815.
