April is na­tional home im­prove­ment month, a time when home­own­ers and ten­ants dust off the win­ter cob­webs and take on some se­ri­ous spring clean­ing.

And a new sur­vey out shows a stag­ger­ing 85 per cent would rather do the dec­o­rat­ing them­selves than hire a pro­fes­sional.

Re­search has shown that when it comes to home im­prove­ment, we would much rather don our own over­alls; get out the old paint­brushes and crack open the tins of paint our­selves.

There are many dif­fer­ent pros and cons to do­ing DIY your­self. The in­creas­ing cost of pro­fes­sion­als com­bined with the easy ac­cess to pur­chas­ing your own DIY equip­ment mean it’s never been eas­ier to spruce up your home your­self.
