Scott’s hotel confusion was no laughing matter
Twitter appeal helps out
Rutherglen comic Scott Agnew was left red-faced recently - after booking a hotel stay for the wrong country.
The former Holyrood pupil was booked to perform in Birmingham in England - but accidently paid to stay in a hotel in Birmingham, Alabama.
Luckily he was able to get a refund from Expedia , who then booked him into a hotel in the right Birmingham.
Scott explained: “It was simply a case where Trivago had been showing me all these Birmingham, UK hotels and I just carried on through them, until I clicked on the one that was actually in Alabama, the Days Inn. That took me to Expedia and I booked it from there.
“As soon as I got the text through confirming the booking, I realised what had happened, and went to Expedia asking for a refund or if they could move the money to another hotel
“They point blank refused to do anything, which obviously wasn’t great - I couldn’t afford to be getting another hotel so I thought I’d end up walking the streets in Birmingham for a couple of nights!”
However after a Twitter appeal he was able to get the situation sorted out.
Scott, a former reporter at the Reformer before starting his comedy career, added: “I’m friends with Janey Godley and she’s quite prolific when she’s on Twitter, so she got all her troops to re-Tweet my problem.
“Being the old hack I am I’d messaged the Birmingham Mail paper too, and they were able to help out - eventually Expedia agreed to refund it and got me somewhere else to stay.”
Scott’s now working on material for a new show, which he’ll be taking to the Edinburgh Fringe in August.
