Halfway & District bowling latest
A Cambuslang man has been awarded a trial for Scotland’s bowls team.
David Fergus of Halfway and District Bowling Club will meet up with the squad on May 29 at Partick Bowling Club.
The 46 year old, who lives in Drumsagard, has been a member of Halfway for over 30 years and won the club championship four times in the last seven years.
He reached the finals of the LBA singles and LBA Champion of Champions as well as the grand finals of the Super Series singles.
Halfway and District Bowling Club’s opening day will take place this Saturday with a 2pm start.
The ladies opening game will take place on April 15, with a 2pm start. This will be followed by a ladies night. Anyone who would like a meal or tickets for any of the events should put their name on the sheet on the noticeboard in the main hall.
The club are also holding a ‘try bowls’ open weekend on April 23 and 24. Both days will start at 1pm. The club is offering a half price membership for first year members and under 16s get a free membership.
The sheets are now on the noticeboard for the first few tournaments of the year.
Mixed pairs will take place on Saturday, May 7 with a 10am start. A date for Ladies Day has still to be decided.

The visitors made a change at the break when Thomas Kilmartin failed to recover from a knock sustained at the end of the half. Chris Faulds came on to replace the striker in a like for like switch.
Three minutes into the half and Lang were down to 10 men. Ryan Mackey had a rush of blood to the head and swung a kick at a Forth’s Kris Dick which resulted in a straight red card.
The home side were awarded a rather soft penalty kick on 69 minutes. The ball was fired towards goal and with Stewart Davidson sliding to try and block the effort, the ball appeared to strike the big defender’s arm and the referee pointed to the spot.
Kris Dick stepped up and fired home for Forth to secure the three points.
