A Cam­bus­lang man has been awarded a trial for Scot­land’s bowls team.

David Fer­gus of Half­way and Dis­trict Bowl­ing Club will meet up with the squad on May 29 at Partick Bowl­ing Club.

The 46 year old, who lives in Drum­sagard, has been a mem­ber of Half­way for over 30 years and won the club cham­pi­onship four times in the last seven years.

He reached the fi­nals of the LBA sin­gles and LBA Cham­pion of Cham­pi­ons as well as the grand fi­nals of the Su­per Se­ries sin­gles.

Half­way and Dis­trict Bowl­ing Club’s open­ing day will take place this Satur­day with a 2pm start.

The ladies open­ing game will take place on April 15, with a 2pm start. This will be fol­lowed by a ladies night. Any­one who would like a meal or tick­ets for any of the events should put their name on the sheet on the noticeboard in the main hall.

The club are also hold­ing a ‘try bowls’ open week­end on April 23 and 24. Both days will start at 1pm. The club is of­fer­ing a half price membership for first year mem­bers and un­der 16s get a free membership.

The sheets are now on the noticeboard for the first few tour­na­ments of the year.

Mixed pairs will take place on Satur­day, May 7 with a 10am start. A date for Ladies Day has still to be de­cided.

The visi­tors made a change at the break when Thomas Kil­martin failed to re­cover from a knock sus­tained at the end of the half. Chris Faulds came on to re­place the striker in a like for like switch.

Three min­utes into the half and Lang were down to 10 men. Ryan Mackey had a rush of blood to the head and swung a kick at a Forth’s Kris Dick which re­sulted in a straight red card.

The home side were awarded a rather soft penalty kick on 69 min­utes. The ball was fired to­wards goal and with Ste­wart David­son slid­ing to try and block the ef­fort, the ball ap­peared to strike the big de­fender’s arm and the ref­eree pointed to the spot.

Kris Dick stepped up and fired home for Forth to se­cure the three points.
