Pay for park­ing with plas­tic

Driv­ers in Ruther­glen will soon be able to pay for their park­ing with their credit or debit card.

South La­nark­shire Coun­cil are propos­ing to in­tro­duce the ser­vice from May 16.

It will af­fect all pay park­ing bays in the re­gion, in­clud­ing the only one in Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang, at Regent Drive serv­ing Ruther­glen train sta­tion.

South Lana r k s h i re Coun­cil head of roads and transportation, Gor­don Mackay said: “The pro­posal af­fects all coun­cil car parks where charges cur­rently ap­ply.

“The amend­ment to the or­der al­lows the coun­cil to ac­cept pay­ment by means of a card as well as coins.

“The only charg­ing car park in Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang is the one off Regent Drive, ad­ja­cent to the rail­way sta­tion.

“There are no pro­pos­als to in­tro­duce charges in any other coun­cil car parks at this time.”

Res­i­dents are be­ing in­vited to com­ment on the plans, which can be viewed at 27 Main Street in Cam­bus­lang or 169 Main Street in Ruther­glen.
