Warn­ing to be on look out for coun­ter­feit notes

Shop­pers and busi­nesses in Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang are be­ing urged be ex­tra vig­i­lant of coun­ter­feit notes.

La­nark­shire Po­lice say coun­ter­feit £20 notes are in cir­cu­la­tion within the divi­sion area, with dodgy cur­rency dis­cov­ered at three premises in St Leonard’s, East Kil­bride, alone.

Lo­cal of­fi­cers are car­ry­ing out en­quiries to trace the per­son re­spon­si­ble, but have ad­vised busi­nesses to en­sure staff are check­ing all notes when tak­ing pay­ment.

Of­fi­cers have also asked the pub­lic to con­tact them with any in­for­ma­tion they have re­gard­ing this mat­ter on the non-emer­gency num­ber 101, or al­ter­na­tively via Crimestop­pers on 0800 555 111.
