Burnside Bowling Club opened their doors for the first game of the new 2016 season last weekend.

An excellent turnout of members and guests enjoyed the opening ceremony and the green was officially opened by club president David Roberson.

In customary fashion David invited his wife Pamela to join him on the green together with vice president Kenny Stirratt and club secretary Walter Mathews. David thanked all who had helped in getting the clubhouse and greens ready for the 2016 season.

He also thanked all guests and members for attending the first day of play in the new year. Pamela then threw the silver jack followed by the first bowls to kick off the new season.

Bowling followed with a full green enjoying the traditional Scottish April weather.

At one stage the green was white with sleet, however this did not put a dampner on the day which was enjoyed by all.

For those not playing, the club facilities were used with afternoon tea being served in the function suite and the bar doing good business for those wishing a dram.

The day stretched into the evening with Burnside member and raconteur Berti Perti leading the way in his own inimitable style on the karaoke machine and bringing to an end a thoroughly enjoyable opening day.
