Cycle work given a mixed response
Lane plans continue to split opinion
Work to expand the cycle lanes on Cambuslang Main Street has provoked an angry response from some locals.
Last week we told how several residents have been expressing their outrage over the ongoing work.
We went down to the Main Street to find out what people thought.
Chris Mackie said: “The road is backed up at the best of times – when the cycle lane gets expanded it’ll be like that all the time.
“It’s a total waste of money. There’s other things on the road they could be doing. The cyclists use the pavement more than they use the lanes.
Eddie Connor said: “I think it’s a good idea, it’ll keep the bikes away from the cars. As a cyclist it’s a good thing it’s not a very good bit of road up there, so hopefully they’ll join up the cycle routes too at some point.
Gregor Milligan said: “I think giving cyclists more space on the road is a brilliant thing. It’s helpful for their health and it’s worthwhile doing I know it’s a bit of disruption just now but in the long term it’ll be worth it for both Rutherglen and Cambuslang. It’s still dangerous to cycle on the roads and there’s no harm in giving them an easier way about.
Gerry Stewart said: “They should be improving the whole road. If you look at the central reservation on the road it’s murder to get across. If a bus comes along you can’t move – they should be spending the money on making
I know it’s a bit of disruption just now but it’ll be worth it in the long run! Gregor Milligan
