Labour in appointment vow
The failing A&E targets reported in last week’s Reformer are only one part of a story of the NHS under pressure.
I regularly hear from local people about cancelled or delayed NHS appointments.
The pressure that the service is under is compounded by under funding from the SNP government.
We also have a GP crisis locally where the population has grown in Rutherglen and Cambuslang since 1999 but the number of GPs has reduced.
Hundreds of millions of pounds of cuts to public services will only make this worse. We need to give our NHS the support and resources it needs to meet the challenges of the 2040s. This means investing more in primary and social care to take the pressure off hospitals.
Scottish Labour would guarantee an appointment in a local GP surgery within 48 hours and a social care package within a week.
