The Con­ser­va­tive can­di­date for Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang says his re­cent elec­tion­eer­ing ef­forts in Burn­side found “a lot” of non­tra­di­tional party sup­port­ers.

Tay­lor Muir says he be­lieves a large num­ber of those he spoke to will vote for the Tories in the con­stituency and on the list. His elec­tion­eer­ing co­in­cided with gath­er­ing sup­port for the party’s pe­ti­tion call­ing on Ni­cola Stur­geon to keep her prom­ise that the ref­er­en­dum was a once in a gen­er­a­tion de­ci­sion.

He said: “With Lib Dems free to back in­de­pen­dence in a fu­ture vote and Kezia Dug­dale mak­ing clear she would ‘con­ceiv­ably’ back sep­a­ra­tion, more and more peo­ple who voted No are turn­ing to Ruth David­son for lead­er­ship.

“Vot­ers want a strong op­po­si­tion who will keep Ni­cola Stur­geon to her word and sup­port our place in the UK. That’s the mes­sage we will be tire­lessly tak­ing to the doorsteps across Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang in the fi­nal
