Rutherglen Girls under 13s are through to the second round of the Scottish cup after seeing off Milton Girls on Saturday morning.

An accomplished performance at Bannockburn High School, Stirling, saw the girls continue their impressive start to the season with an 8-0 victory over their latest opponents.

Morgan Marshall and Charley McQuade both bagged braces in the opening half and another from Lucy M saw the girls stride into the break with a five-goal cushion.

Defensive duo Emily Moran and captain Rachel Crighton put in another commanding performance to clear any danger before it lead to any trouble for Rutherglen ‘keeper Logan McMullan.

Despite dominating most of the game they failed to capitalise further, with Milton goalkeeper keeping her side in the match with a string of impressive saves.

The second half was much the same with Rutherglen retaining most of the possession.

Goals from Lucy M and a double for Charlie McGhee, who went off injured after a collision in the first half, sealed the Royal Burgh’s side’s place in the next round of the cup and kept up a storming start to the season with another impressive display.

Manager Brian O’Neil said: “We were a not ourselves today, there was something lacking. But a win is a win.”
