Who will you back in the Euro championships?
Fans hoping it will be goals galore in France
With the UEFA European Championships set to start on Friday, the buzz around the tournament is in full swing- or so we thought.
Perhaps it was because Scotland failed yet again to qualify for a major tournament or because some had no interest in the sport, but many residents were unaware that the competition was starting in only a few days’ time.
The Reformer, however, took to the streets to find out who their readers would be backing or if they had a favourite to put their money on.
Stuart Abercrombie from Burnside said: “I am supporting anybody but England. I would like to see Germany win it because I like the way they play football.”
Rutherglen’s Jim Mulholland was unaware the competition was even taking place this month but thought Slovakia had a chance of winning.
“I didn’t know it was on but I’d pick Slovakia because Leicester won the English Premier League and that shows anything can happen.”
Elizabeth McAllister from Rutherglen also tipped the Germans, due to her liking of a top European manager.
She said: “If I had to choose a team it would be Germany because I like Jurgen Klopp. He is a great manager for Liverpool.”
Malcolm Doig of Burnside added: “I’ve not got a preference because my team didn’t make it... again.
“I don’t know who is going to win but I hope there is some good games and lots of goals.”
