Still amnesty over weapons

Rutherglen Reformer - - News -

Police Scotland say residents in Rutherglen and Cambuslang can still hand in airguns even after their amnesty on the weapons came to an end.

But anyone who does not want to register their weapon will need to travel out of town to give them up.

The Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 comes fully into effect on December 31.

The new law will require any person who possesses, purchases, uses or acquires an air weapon to have a certificate to hold them legally.

Thousands of weapons were handed in during the amnesty, which finished last week.

Local police divisions have designated Police Offices where specially trained officers will be on hand to accept and make safe surrendered air weapons.

In the Lanarkshire division, the nearest police station to hand in weapons is Hamilton Police Office on Campbell Street.

The nearest station to Rutherglen in Glasgow taking part is London Road Police Office at 851 London Road.
