Mys­ter y re­mains over care home death

The death of a woman who passed away while tak­ing a bath at a care home for peo­ple with learn­ing dif­fi­cul­ties is be­ing treated as “un­ex­plained” by po­lice.

The 59-year-old res­i­dent of Cherry Tree Court home in Cam­bus­lang, was found at 7.55am on Fri­day.

The £ 2.2mil­lion Cherry Tree Court com­plex opened seven years ago with 12 apart­ments de­signed to give for­mer long- term hos­pi­tal stay pa­tients a bet­ter qual­ity of life.

Of­fi­cers say they are work­ing with so­cial work­ers and the Care Com­mis­sion in a joint in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

A Po l i c e S c o t l a n d spokes­woman said: “Around 7.55am on Fri­day, June 10 po­lice were called to the Cherry Tree Court care home, West Coats Road, Cam­bus­lang, fol­low­ing the death of a 59-year-old fe­male res­i­dent.

“A post mortem is due to take place to es­tab­lish the cause of her death, which at this time of­fi­cers are treat­ing as un­ex­plained.

“A joint in­ves­ti­ga­tion be­tween po­lice, South La­nark­shire Coun­cil so­cial work depart­ment and the Care Com­mis­sion is on­go­ing.”

A post mortem will be car­ried out to con­firm the cause of death.
