S o u t h L a na r k s h i r e councillors are set to write off over £300,000 in unpaid debts.
Members of a finance and corporate resources committee will rubberstamp the move at a meeting later today, Wednesday, June 15.
The figure will include £ 217,663.19 in unpaid council tax. This relates mainly to prescribed debt, sequestrations and estates of the deceased.
A further £ 94,421.44 of housing rent and associated charges is also expected to be written off.
The bulk of this is from housing benefit ov e r p ayments w i t h £ 52,688.01 not being collected. The rest comes from rent arrears, lock-up rent and factoring arrears.
A report to councillors will say the council reached their target for arrears arising from council tax, nondomestic rates and sundry debt.
The authority was behind on its council tax collection target for 2015/16, although it was ahead of their 2014/15 figure.
The overall target for the year was £ 110.089million with the actual figure collected £ 109.876m meaning they fell 0.18 per cent short of target.
