Willie hopes to bring‘pace and energy’to squad
Glencairn have unveiled eight new signings for the coming season.
Gaffer Willie Harvey has raided the Rossvale squad who came close to winning promotion into the Superleague First Division, with five players making the switch.
Striker Jay McKay will be joined by club captain and defender Rhys Donaldson.
Also moving from the Bishopbriggs outfit are defender Craig McGregor, midfielder Jamie Hunter and Fraser Team, who plays up front.
Jamie Hamilton, who can play out wide or in midfield, arrives from Lesmahagow after sweeping the board at their end of season awards.
Defender Stuart Hunter also joins from the ’Gow.
Making up the eight new faces is Jordan Marshall, a defender who joins from Larkhall Thistle.
Despite all coming from a division below the Glens, Harvey reckons the players will give the side something they lacked last season.
He said: “They will all bring pace and energy and that is something we were missing .
“The likes of Jay McKay and Fraser Team will bring goals. They scored nearly 40 between them last season, and Jamie Hamilton scored quite a few at Lesmahagow.
“Finally, they will bring competition for places, and that’s something we didn’t have at the end of last season.
“They are all young guys, in their early to mid- 20s. But they do have experience.
“The Rossvale lads were running away with their league last year until the management team went to East Kilbride in the Lowland League and some of these guys were targeted by them.”
As well as the new signings, Harvey has secured a number of players from last season’s squad.
Signed up so far are JC Hutchison, Andy Neil, David Dunnachie, Brian Eadie, Alan Muir, Sean McGuire, Tony Fraser and Derek McNab.
In addition to that, Ryan Bennett, Anthony Dempsey, Ross McConville, Mark McHendry, Shaun Roberts, Danny Salah and Dale Wallace all make the step up from the under 21 side.
Despite signing up the new players, Harvey does not feel he is drastically changing his squad.
He said: “It’s not so much an overhaul as we’ve still kept most of last season’s squad.
“At the end of the season we never had a full bench.
“These are all players we have known about for a long, long time.
The Glens will be back for preseason training on July 2.
Harvey added: “We only finished two weeks ago and we wanted to give the boys a decent break.”
