Duries duo head to Hull in glory hunt
A pair of talented boxers are heading down south in the search for glory this weekend.
James Sweeney, 12, and Shahzman Parnez, 11, will represent Duries at the Hull Box Club.
The prestigious event sees over 400 boxers from across the UK and Ireland fight over three days.
The pair, who shared the best junior award at Duries this year, could box three times a day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with a chance of picking up a medal each day.
Coach Archie Durie said: “Both of them are really confident with both myself and other coach Jimmy Stewart also confident for them.”
Elsewhere in boxing, Cambuslang lad Nicholas Devlin was knocked out of the European Junior Championships on Monday night.
The 14 year old, who boxes for O’Neil’s, lost out to German fighter Ahmet Sor in his second bout at the championships in Hungary.
Coach Brian Murphy said: “Nicholas competed well throughout the contest.”
