David ad­mits he is con­cerned about the fu­ture of fund­ing for UK sci­en­tists:“There could be less money avail­able plus our abil­ity to hire top class Euro­pean sci­en­tists and at­tract EU stu­dents to our uni­ver­si­ties could be af­fected.

“It could be a dis­as­ter for re­search in the UK. I’ve heard more than one EU sci­en­tist tell me that with­out UK sci­en­tists it could be eas­ier for them to get grants.”
