Flute band to mark Somme

Cam­bus­lang Vol­un­teers Flute Band will lead a pro­ces­sion through the town on Fri­day evening as they mark the cen­te­nary of the Bat­tle of the Somme when thou­sands of Bri­tish soldiers fell.

The pro­ces­sion will be­gin at the Cam­bus­lang Ceno­taph and in­clude the lay­ing of a wreath at Cam­bus­lang Ter­mi­nus.

Ian Wi ll i a m s o n , a mem­ber of the band and the Cam­bus­lang branch of the Royal Bri­tish Le­gion, said: “The band are com­ing to­gether for the cen­te­nary year of the Bat­tle of the Somme, it is a me­mo­rial and re­mem­brance pa­rade for all those who died at the Somme and dur­ing the Great War in gen­eral.

“I think it’s im­por­tant to re­mem­ber the amount of fa­thers, sons and brothers who made the ul­ti­mate sac­ri­fice and fought the Ger­mans and their al­lies.”

Cam­bus­lang Vol­un­teers will be­gin the pa­rade at 6.45pm and it will pass t h rough Ma ns e f i e l d Av­enue, Green­lees Road, John­son Drive, Croft Road, Cam­bus­lang Ter­mi­nus, Main Street and Somerville Street.
