Flute band to mark Somme
Cambuslang Volunteers Flute Band will lead a procession through the town on Friday evening as they mark the centenary of the Battle of the Somme when thousands of British soldiers fell.
The procession will begin at the Cambuslang Cenotaph and include the laying of a wreath at Cambuslang Terminus.
Ian Wi ll i a m s o n , a member of the band and the Cambuslang branch of the Royal British Legion, said: “The band are coming together for the centenary year of the Battle of the Somme, it is a memorial and remembrance parade for all those who died at the Somme and during the Great War in general.
“I think it’s important to remember the amount of fathers, sons and brothers who made the ultimate sacrifice and fought the Germans and their allies.”
Cambuslang Volunteers will begin the parade at 6.45pm and it will pass t h rough Ma ns e f i e l d Avenue, Greenlees Road, Johnson Drive, Croft Road, Cambuslang Terminus, Main Street and Somerville Street.
