Overtoun

Rutherglen Reformer - - Sport -

Overtoun members enjoyed another one-day tournament on Saturday when 14 mixed pairs played a round robin for the Nominated Mixed Pairs Trophy. Organiser Anna McLean had a difficult task when illness caused one or two withdrawals and she was glad when Benny Brown volunteered to play as a lady. He was even happier when he and Dougie Nodding won the event. No one is quite sure if they can be called the mixed pairs champions but, in a club that prides itself on equal rights, maybe it is not such an outlandish title. The gallant runners-up, beaten by one shot in an extra end, were Ann MacAlpine and John Meikle.

Senior members are still enjoying their Tuesday night and Wednesday morning leagues while others are taking advantage of any dry days to play ties as they progress towards the final stages of the competitions.
